8 Aug – Bergamo, Bellagio, Como

We started the day with breakfast in the hotel, then headed towards Bergamos Upper Town. This area is much older, and had some great old buildings and some great views of the Lower Town. It was, however, a bit confusing and didn't have much parking that wasn't residents only. We found parking however, and walked through the town centre which had some nice churches and the like. There was also a nice Pizza store, where we got some nice sandwiches for lunch.

We left Bergamo and headed towards Lake Como. We decided to stop at the town of Bellagio and then head onto Como. The road to Bellagio was a bit of fun. Narrow, windy and busy in parts. Especially fun when a truck came the other way and we had no choice but to reverse and let him past. Bellagio itself was nice. Fairly small and not overly touristy (however there were a few tourists, including what looked like a Scottish wedding party). We had lunch a drink and snack over looking the water, then headed to Como itself.

Como has a really nice marina area with a large boardwalk. The churches were pretty nice, one had a big dome, and we could take photos in them. Overall, which not the most memorable place, Como was nice and could definitely deserve a little extra time to explore.

We headed back to Bergamo for dinner. I drove most of the way. Got used to being on the wrong side of the car and road fairly quickly. Still a bit strange judging how far away things are on the right of the car, but not too bad. We went to a place called Ciao Autogrill for dinner, which turned out to be a little cafeteria style place, fairly average.

Tomorrow we head for Milan and onward from there. Bergamo has been nice, and I'm glad we stopped.

Signing off...
